The TAS Faculty of Concord High School offer a comprehensive range of elective subjects for students in Year 9 and 10 (Stage 5)

 

FOOD TECHNOLOGY

Food Technology provides students with opportunities to investigate food through practical ‘hands on' applications and processes such as designing, researching, making, communicating, managing and evaluating the impact of food technologies on the individual, society and the environment.

Students are involved in preparing and presenting menus to suit a range of situations such as celebration foods, multicultural foods and café style foods. Students will be given the opportunity to develop their own unique and creative food products.

Students will complete weekly food practicals and are therefore required to pay a fee to cover the cost of food items.

INDUSTRIAL TECHNOLOGY - ELECTRONICS

Students electing this subject will develop knowledge and skills in the use of materials, tools and techniques related to electronics which are enhanced and further developed through the study of specialist modules in circuits and components and/or computer repair and construction.

Practical projects will be undertaken in electronic circuits, electronic controlled devices, robotic projects, computer systems and components.

A course fee must be paid to cover materials used in the construction of projects.

GRAPHICS TECHNOLOGY

Students electing this subject will develop skills to allow them to manipulate and to transfer mental images into drawings to be used in the personal thought process as well as to relay these ideas to people with different degrees of technical understanding.

Students will begin by developing skills in basic drawing techniques then move on to experience Engineering and Architectural Drawing, Product Drawing and Graphical Design. Students will develop skills in the use of CAD (ProDesk Top) and will call upon previous knowledge of drawing technique to produce a series of drawings using CAD in an area of their choice ie: Architecture, Engineering or Product Drawing.

Students are required to purchase a technical drawing kit. A small course fee must be paid to cover materials.

INFORMATION AND SOFTWARE TECHNOLOGY

Students selecting this subject will be given opportunities to build on information and communication technology (ICT) skills, when using and integrating application programs and hardware devices throughout the course. Through approaches such as modelling and prototyping, and other student-centred activities, students will develop knowledge and understanding of both practical and theoretical concepts of the course.

This course include a variety of practical projects that cover course topics such as digital media, the Internet & website development, databases, communications systems, multimedia, programming, computer hardware and software.

A course fee must be paid to cover materials used throughout the course.

INDUSTRIAL TECHNOLOGY - METAL

Students electing this subject will commence by constructing simple metalworking projects and repair and maintenance of motor vehicles. Students will have the opportunity to construct a major project of their own choice and design. A course fee must be paid to cover materials used in the construction of projects.

Units to be undertaken in Years 9 and 10 will include Metallica, Fitting and Machining, Fabrication Techniques, Metal Machining, Power Mechanics, Welding and Automotive.

TEXTILES TECHNOLOGY

Textiles Technology will contribute to the overall education of students by enabling them to confidently use a range of technologies. Each term students will construct a range of inspirational and unique clothing and textile arts that will enable them to express their creativity. Students are required to document the design process through the development of design folios. Students are given the opportunity to develop fashion design drawing skills and design and create clothing to suit their own unique style and body type.

Students are provided with a great number and wide range of practical experiences in order to develop individual skills. Students construct a range of practical items such as lingerie, formal wear, swim wear, children's clothing and teddy bears.
A course fee must be paid to cover materials used in the construction of projects.
Students do not need to have any sewing skills to take this course, these will be developed over the two years.

INDUSTRIAL TECHNOLOGY - WOOD

Students electing this subject will commence by constructing simple woodworking projects and end by constructing a Major Project of their own choice and design.  A course fee must be paid to cover materials used in the construction of projects.

Units to be undertaken in Years 9 and 10 will include General Woodwork, Cabinet Making, Furniture, wood Machining, Furniture and Fittings and Woodworking Wonders.
