Course Outline:
In Year 8 students will build on their skills and knowledge in the area of numbers, algebra, measurement, geometry, statistics and probability. Students will be expected to develop their skills in the area of communication and reasoning of mathematical ideas. Students will require a grid book, calculator and geometrical instruments. Students will be given homework each week both from textbooks and through technology.
Course Outcomes:
At the end of year 8, student will:
- develop efficient strategies for numerical calculation, recognize patterns, describe relationships, apply algebraic techniques and generalization.
- identify, visualize and quantify measures and the attributes of shapes and objects, and explore measurement concepts and geometric relationships, applying formulas, strategies and geometric reasoning in the solution of problems.
- collect, represent, analyse, interpret and evaluate data, assign and use probabilities, and make sound judgement.
